Back again! The first shot can't have been that bad!!
It's nice to see nothing changes while I'm away. The Rugby Football League can always be depended on to screw up the format of the next season and confuse everyone in the process. It really does amaze me that after the outstanding failures of the three division format several seasons ago, they recommend a move back to it.
Does anyone actually listen to the fans to see what they would prefer? After all, they're the people that have quite a right to have their say. I see that our board of directors are fighting the cause along with other NFP clubs. Hopefully common sense will prevail but, as we've seen too many times before, that isn't always the case.
The season finale for my adopted team, the baseball-playing Pittsburgh Pirates took place at PNC Park last Wednesday (26th). The season ended on a consistent note with the Bucs going down 8-4 to the Chicago Cubs. The previous night they beat the same team 13-1. Consistency has been a problem, to say the least.
They rounded off the night with a fantastic fireworks display. They really know how to keep fans coming back despite the sometimes below par performances - over 2.5 million people have attended this seasons home games! The next stop for me is the Pittsburgh Penguins ice hockey team in two weeks. As with the Steelers, it's not easy to get tickets but I got lucky this time. Should be quite the experience.
It's good to see more people adding their views and comments to the Town.Net site via the message board and various columns. Just an idea, but some views from a Director every few weeks might keep the fans a little more in touch with what's happening at DP(?)
I thought I would pass along my congratulations to Keith Singleton and everyone involved with the Academy for another successful season. It's a shame that they didn't get to the Grand Final but I'm sure they'll be back as strong as ever next season.
This sentence may not be too popular amongst the Town fans, so you may want to skip it. Thought I would pass on my best wishes to my old mate Dave Farrell in his new role as Director of another local RFL club (you know which one!). You have to respect it when people back up their words with actions, whoever they're affiliated to.
I've been to Sin City USA since I last wrote, a.k.a. Las Vegas, Nevada. Unfortunately I didn't win big so I'm not coming back to buy the club. Just thought I'd mention that, you never know what rumors circulate around town... Apparently, Les Horrigan is a Harvard graduate too (just a rumour!?)
Well, that's it for now. Thanks for some positive comments so far (Geoff) but, as always, let me know what you think.
