I regular read the messages on the message board and I think that the board deserves some criticism.
It must be hellishly difficult for an outsider to get in to the site. I use 'Copernic', this offers many Town headings from different search engines, but only a few allow access to the site.
I can understand the poor support of the Town message board due to the drivel that it often contains. I amongst others do not want to waste time trawling the message board when all we can see is silly comments from one person to another. These people should contact each other direct.
I believe that the board should be used for authentic Town and supporters club news, and a tool for individual supporters to express their genuine frustration or constructive criticism of happenings whether it is towards the directors, the team or rugby league related topics in general.
Whoever is responsible for running the site, should surely keep it up to date, there are items on the site that go back months?? Perhaps by scouring other sites some good ideas could be developed. Some sites encourage the directors, coaches and players to discuss message board topics. It helps to keep supporters interest alive in the club. It may be that whoever is running the site is a volunteer and needs a little thanks and appreciation.
I attend all first the team home matches and possibly 90% of the away matches. I also attend a good number of the alliance and academy home matches.
I have attempted to analyse last seasons efforts, while some supporters are euphoric that the first team has done exceptionally well in achieving 9th position in the league, I do not feel that this is too much to be proud about having watched some of the displays. I cannot understand that when the team is getting beat and desperate for points on the board to salvage the game, that the team consistently barge about in the middle of the field getting nowhere. This is completly negative and has now being going for a number of seasons under different coaches. Even the crowd scream at the players to open the game up, or is this style of play club policy?
Looking at the league table of the teams above Workington, only Hull KR have a worse points for record. Most teams above are over the 100 points better off. Of the points against, we are just above Baley who finished 13th in the table. So both our points 'for' and points 'against' are nothing to be pleased about.
It is generally agreed that Lewty had a great season, but how many of his wonderful tries came from the help of his centre? As for the other wing, how many points were scored on that wing?
I understand that we are looking for a scrum half and a centre. I suggest we need a quality scrum half and two ball playing centres, not a couple of bargers. This brings me back to one player who has improved every time he put his boots on, and that was Kevin Hetherington. As a utility player he did a first class job, I consider that is what he should kept for the future. There are going to be injuries, sickness and players needing a rest. so he would be on the field more often than not.
Do we have anyone specialising in coaching the forwards? While on the whole they work hard, they do seem to be lacking in the art of offloading the ball in the tackle and indeed beating an opposite player with a swerve or a side step.
Yes, Owen played brilliantly and consitantly, but like young Sice is inclined to hang on to the ball too long after making his break. Possibly a support player would have been able to develop the move. Umm! support play. How does it come that some players are still strolling into position when new play is going on? Are some players not sufficiently fit to get back into play as quickly as possible.
Young Sice, is he being properly coached? We hear quite a lot of praise from the coach about his ability, but since his injury has he ever played more than thirty minutes in a game? Could he have not been tried at scrum half, even in the alliance team?
Directors complaining about attendances? They seem to have forgotten that they allowed speedway on to Derwent Park and that adults and indeed adults with children have limited income to spend on sport and recreation.
At the moment, looking at the Derwent Park gates, it would seem that speedway is winning by a mile. Why is this? Is it because the ruby team is not playing attractive rugby on a regular basis, or is it after a good win the team turn out a rubbish performance the following week.
The directors are crying out for additional funding. As a pensioner I pay £2 entrance for the popular side, the same as school children. Adults pay £7. At most away grounds, as a pensioner the least I seem to have paid is £4 and at places like Widnes I believe it was £6, with other adults paying anywhere from £8 to £10.
If Town increased the gate prices by £1 and averaged 1000 through the turnstiles for 16 matches, this would increse the seasons yield by £16000. Not to be snuffed at?
As far as I know there has never ever been any indication what finance the dirctors expect from sponsors of players/ the match ball etc. Perhaps advertising these figures other sponsors would be encouraged to come forward.
I would think that there is enough content in the above to encourage discussion on the message board, instead of the silly messages about bald heads and the like.
