Town mourn death of stalwart worker Dick Viney

It was sad news to hear that the club has lost one of its staunchest supporters through the death of Dick Viney.

A retired Kendal school headmaster, Mr Viney had been taken ill three weeks ago and died in hospital.

Mr Viney was a lifelong Town supporter and will be particularly remembered for his efforts to increase the level of Rugby League played in the schools throughout Cumbria.

He was also responsible for the introduction of several primary school competitions and which led to youngsters being able to parade their skills on Derwent Park as curtain-raisers to the matches.

It was largely through his efforts that club professionals went into to schools to coach.

The Past Players Association was established by Mr Viney and he helped to produce several famous player reunions.
