Keith Singleton joins town.net

Town fans will be very familiar with Keith, who scribes the match-day programme. He will be writing for this site during the new season. His first piece for us is the player profiles.

New roles for coaches

The coach of last season's successful Academy team, Paul Penrice will this season be moving up to take control of the Alliance squad.

"I know most of the players in the Alliance side anyway because I took them when they were in the Academy. I will miss being involved with the Academy, but I think I can do a good job and attract more of the young players to sign up who I could bring the best out of," said Paul.

Colin Hall who looked after the Alliance squad last season will be getting more involved with the first team.

With plans to merge the county's Academy teams ditched, Town will retain their Academy side and a replacement for Paul Penrice is being sought. The club have several potential coaches in mind and an announcement will be made in due course.

Searching for a friendly

Town are searching for an alternative date for the pre-season friendly with Leigh.

The game had been scheduled for Sunday November 12th or Friday November 17th, but the League has stopped the game from going ahead as it does not want attention deflected from World Cup match being played on these dates.

"We have applied to the Rugby League but it is highly unlikely they will let us play at the same time a World Cup game is on," said Town chief executive John Donovan.

"People have not to assume we are to play on any particular day and as the old adage goes, watch this space."

"We are talking to Leigh and the RFL. We are doing our level best but the World Cup is not making it any easier for us."

"A midweek time is fine for us up here but not easy for travelling teams."

The match against Leigh, last season's NFP Grand Finalists is seen as a stern pre-season test for the Town squad.
