Right 'Townies', my first few lines are an appeal for you all to get cracking, on behalf of the club, by submitting thousands of votes to the Rugby League Express-2000 Readers Poll. It is based on a nomination system and Workington Town have two players selected. Matt Sturm for 'NFP Player of the Year', and Anthony Samuel for 'Overseas Player of the Year'. You can vote for both Matt and Ant, in their respective categories by visiting the web site www.planetrugbyleague.co.uk. (go there now).
Incidentally the marras have only the one nominee, 'fatty' someone...(no not W.K.). Let's show them how we get behind our club's major players.
Having done that little exercise you can dwell on the fact that live match action is on the menu again, weather permitting, this Sunday. (Hooray) Oldham are in town, and they'll be looking for a second win of the season in Cumbria. Having disposed of the Raiders at Craven Park two weeks ago. Like us, but not the same reason, they were also devoid of combat last weekend. But having seen the news that the Roughyeds Chairman, Chris Hamilton, has been appointed the new Chairman of the Association of Premiership Clubs, I feel the visitors will arrive in a buoyant and confident mood.
But hey, if you weren't there let me remind you, so did their academy team when they came here in September for a play off clash. They had just posted 100 plus points on the lot down the road in a previous match...they went back home like 'Bears' with sore heads, after Bens Boyz did'em. (yes I know they aren't Bears now, but it sounded better). However I do hope we get a bigger gate (than v the Hornets), but equally as enthusiastic Town support for this one. It's going to a tough one for sure.
The alliance team were due to kick off their season last Saturday. But rain, rain, and more rain, stopped play. Ben, (the new A team coach, as you know), tells me he wouldn't in fact have made that inaugural match had it gone ahead. He was attending a course relating to his job as a 'doorman'. I thought it pertinent to mention this for all you Workington 'clubbers' out there. Ben now knows exactly how to handle you.
Finally, for now, and jumping back to computer land. The Town web site seems to going well. It's certainly a 'hit' with the not only Town fans, but others nearby. A regular vehicle it appears to be for exchanging verbal blows. Although I must clear up the matter re the 'Keith' who submits regular items on the Town and Haven message boards...it is not me.
That is not to say I don't enjoy reading most of the in-fighting, as long as it remains in the best possible taste.

Haven fans are revolting..(official).....I have just this morning 13/12 received word that my input to the Whitehaven programme (Last year called 'My Blue Swayed Views', changed this time to 'My Uptown Jam Session') had caused much upset before and after the Swinton match at the Recre. Many Haven fans have revolted, and caused their Directors to have a rethink about allowing me this freedom to take 'cheap shots' at them. Therefore by mutual consent, between myself and the Haven Board, we have decided to discontinue my articles with immediate effect. (Oh well I'll just have find another 'field' from which to take pot shots at them, it won't be too difficult I'm sure).
